We’ve added a browser extension to Frappe Vault, our open-source password and secrets management app for Frappe and ERPNext. The extension brings Frappe Vault closer to the browser, making it easier to access your vault while working across websites and services.

About Frappe Vault

Frappe Vault is an app for storing, organising, and sharing sensitive information within your Frappe environment. It supports different types of secrets, including passwords, API keys, SSH keys, notes, database credentials, credit card details, and media files. You can organise them into folders, bookmark frequently used entries, and share secrets with specific users or roles.

Vault access is also logged, so administrators can review who accessed which secrets and when. The idea is to manage these credentials within your own Frappe or ERPNext environment, using its existing user and permission system, rather than maintaining another standalone service for your team.

You can read more about the original app and why we built it.

Taking the vault into the browser

The browser extension is a companion to the Frappe Vault app. We already have the vault for managing credentials. The extension adds a browser-based way to access it, which makes sense for a tool people use while working across different websites and services.

It doesn’t replace the Frappe app. It extends how you access it. The extension is available as an open-source project on GitHub. You can explore the source code, report issues, and contribute to its development. It’s also available on the Chrome Web Store.

Built for the Frappe ecosystem

At LUBUS, we build and maintain open-source tools for different ecosystems, including WordPress, Laravel, and Frappe.

Our work in the Frappe ecosystem includes both apps and supporting tools. Sometimes that means building something for a specific need. Other times, it means bringing an established workflow into Frappe and making it available as part of the ecosystem.

Frappe Vault and its browser extension are an example of the latter. Password management is an established category of software. Our focus here is making it available within Frappe and extending that experience into the browser.

We think these additions matter because they give Frappe users more options for the tools they can run and adapt within their own environments.

Try Frappe Vault

If you’re already using Frappe Vault, you can explore the browser extension and its source code.

Both the app and the browser extension are open source. If you try them out, find an issue, or have an improvement in mind, contributions and feedback are welcome.
